There’s been a remarkable amount of activity for Jubal Cain in the past several months. Worth noting, we have gigged twice already this year, which is a major mark considering how woodsheddy we usually are. We’re currently undergoing a complete makeover of the setlist that will include plenty of new material and old material that we’ve never performed live. Additionally, we’ve moved our studio down to a more convenient floor in our warehouse with no elevator. Goodbye to the comfy couch; it wasn’t about to make it down three flights of stairs. Our new room has been outfitted with a new (to us) giant mixing console as well as new recording apparati. New recordings are about to come streaming out at a rapid pace as soon as we get our shit together “tuning the room” for proper recording. And perhaps, just perhaps, the new “Movie Cult” album will see the light of day. Then again, it’s just as likely that we either scrap most of it (since it’s going on six years old) and compile one big “debut” LP consisting of all of the stuff that we’ve re-recorded forty times in addition to the new material. Who the fuck knows or cares. The music will tell us.

Yeah, I forgot to post this so sue me. The new Jubal Cain featuring the debut of our new virtuoso drummer Stephen will be playing an opening slot for our friends in Underwood on September 10, 2011 (the night before football season starts) at the Roadhouse Sports Bar in Spring, TX. It’s just a short hop from Intercontinental Airport and can be found here:

Here’s Jubal Cain circa November 2010, live at Khon’s Skyline. You can’t imagine how cool a venue this is until you’ve been there. It has a more majestic view of Downtown than you’re likely to enjoy at any other live music venue. We set up the show ourselves (in conjunction with The Black Powder Poets and Atom Watts) and Khon asked nary a thing from us, other than to respect the law, which I’m proud (and almost surprised) to say we did. I got some really good kolaches and the band got rent money and (some) free beer from the gig. Thanks, Khon. See you again sometime in the recent future.

Unfinished Composition For Two Electric Basses

In an effort to make our site a little less, well, full of dead links, we have finally begun in earnest the wholesale revisions to the site that we have long promised. Hope you enjoy the Dunkin’ Donuts theme on the splash page, but I assure you it’s just a placeholder (sorry, acid-heads).

Anyway, expect more major changes to take shape in the coming weeks. We’ve finally got this band into gigging shape better than it’s ever been and we’re sick of playing great music for each other. We’re going on the road.

For the uninitiated, go to the Steal page and take a listen. All of the stuff on that page is with our beloved ex-drummer Rad, but we’ll have new stuff featuring The Amazing Stephen Holguin up soon. View it as the studio versions of songs that always sound better live, except not the bands that totally disappoint when you see them live (I’m looking at you, Soundgarden).
